Marketing for Beginners: How to Get People to Know Your Idea

(Or how to keep your business from being more invisible than an ignored WhatsApp message)

Having a good idea isn’t enough (harsh but true)

Imagine you sell the best brownies at school. They’re soft, with chocolate chips, and they even have a name: “BrownieLicious.” But nobody knows about them. You keep them in a lunchbox. Nobody asks for them. You eat them yourself. End of business.

Having a good idea is only half the game. The other half is called marketing: getting people to find out, get excited, and want what you’re offering.

So… what is marketing?

No, it’s not just making posters in Comic Sans or shouting down the hallway: “I sell cookies!” Marketing is the art (and science) of communicating your value creatively.

Translation: making your product known, desired, and bought (without looking like a desperate carnival barker).

The 3 magic marketing questions

Before you promote anything, answer this:

  1. Who is my customer? Selling to kids, teachers, or your gamer friends isn’t the same thing.
  2. Why should they care? What problem do you solve, what need do you meet, what makes them say: “I need this now!”
  3. Where are those people? On TikTok, in the schoolyard, in the science club… That’s where you need to show up (strategically, not like a spy).

Branding 101 (because your brand needs an identity, not an existential crisis)

Your brand is much more than a name. It’s:

  • The style you use.
  • The language you speak.
  • The color that represents it.
  • What people feel when they see you or buy from you.

Example: selling juice as “Juicy” isn’t the same as selling it as “Premium Tropical Explosion.” The name changes EVERYTHING — it’s part of your differentiation strategy.

Social media: your best ally (if you don’t make a fool of yourself)

You don’t need thousands of followers. You need a clear, creative, and consistent account.

Quick tips:

  • Use real, well-taken photos.
  • Tell your story.
  • Show the process (people love that).
  • Post regularly, but don’t spam.
  • Reply to comments like a human, not a bot.

Strategies to stand out without a millionaire’s budget

  • Free samples: let people try your product.
  • Creative promos: buy-one-get-one, combo with a quote of the day, a simple giveaway.
  • Partners: team up with another business. Brownies + coffee = success.
  • Ambassador customers: if someone loves what you do, ask them to recommend you.

Real cases that went from 0 to something

  • Leo made stickers. He started posting designs on his stories. A teacher asked for one. That went viral. Now he makes custom stickers for other classes.
  • Lina sold cupcakes. She put a spinning wheel with challenges at her stand. Whoever bought could spin it and win prizes. Everyone wanted to spin.
  • Javi made T-shirts with silly quotes. He created an IG account where people voted for the quote of the week. Result: community + sales.

Final thought (with a zoom effect and movie music)

You don’t need to be a marketing expert to get started. You just need to understand your audience, tell your story well, and show up authentically.

Next time you have a great idea, don’t hide it. Ask yourself:

“How can I get the world (or at least my school) to find out about this?”

Because the best product in the world is useless if nobody knows it exists.

And remember: a good idea with good marketing… is worth two super-cold brownies on sale.
